When is a Root Canal Necessary?

When the “pulp” (the soft tissue inside your tooth containing nerves and blood vessels) becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, or a crack in the tooth, it must be treated to avoid an abscess or tooth loss.

The Root Canal Process: Step-by-Step

1. Examination & X-Rays: We use digital imaging to see the shape of the root canals and determine the extent of the infection.

2. Painless Numbing: Local anesthesia is applied to ensure you don’t feel a thing.

3. Cleaning the Canals: Dr. Lamis Mohammed carefully removes the infected pulp and thoroughly cleans and shapes the inside of the root.

4. Sealing: The cleaned space is filled and sealed with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha.

5. Restoration: Since a tooth becomes more fragile after a root canal, we typically recommend a dental crown (crafted by our Prosthodontics team) to restore its full strength and function.
